Sometimes There Are Things that Recording Becomes The Best
12:25, single channel video, FHD, 2019My grandmother fled from the North to the South alone at the age of 17, just before the outbreak of the Korean War (1950-1953) after the Second World War. Having lived for nearly a century, she is now losing her memories rapidly due to Alzheimer’s disease. The video is based on stories drawn from my grandmother’s memories, which are rooted in her personal experience of displacement and war. Using the narration conveyed through my grandmother’s voice, the locations and events mentioned in the text are reconstructed visually through Google Maps, Street View, and simple graphic drawings. This process continuously attempts to trace, revisit, and re-examine an individual’s past from the present perspective.
