Born in 1991 (South Korea), based in Berlin and Seoul
Daeun Joo explores philosophical questions about existence. She begins by asking herself what it means to exist, then creates narratives that reflect both her personal background and historical events using time-based media, such as video. She further investigates the idea of existence by focusing on non-human life forms that are beyond reach, bringing them into our reality through sculptures and installations, and questioning once again what it means to exist.
In South Korea, Daeun Joo was selected as one of the 50 contemporary artists (2023) and exhibited the results of an art and science project at the Daejeon Artist House (2023). She was also a residency artist at the Tongyeong International Triennale (2022) and received an award at the Seoul International New Media Festival (2019). In Berlin, her works have been shown in several exhibitions, including Silent Green (2024) and Transmediale Vorspiel (2023).
